The Manor House, which is known for its great selection of rotating hand pulled ales, a wide range of beers, spirits, gin and home cooked food is a friendly, cosy pub that is located on the outer edge of Bradford. The Manor thrives on selling their customers home-made food. From steak and ale pie to beer battered onion rings, the team at The Manor want to make sure that their customers are not getting processed, frozen foods, they want to be able to give something more than what customers can get out of their freezer at home.
Another great quality this establishment has is that they source their meat from local butchers, to make sure they are giving back to the community; rather than using high end supermarkets.
Customers who have visit The Manor recently have given their opinions on what they think of the quality of the food. Jack and Jess, a young couple who live in the area are locals to The Manor, they mention how they were never “pub people” but when they heard from friends about the food at The Manor they decided to give it a try and now attend on a regular basis.
“We attended steak night at the Manor last week. For a pub, this was not what I was expecting. Usually you would find the food to be a standard quality, however, you really do pay for what you get.” – Jack, age 19.
“When our food arrived, we realised the quality. The steak was from local butchers, the vegetables from a local grocery, home cooked skin on chips and onion rings which the chefs prepare daily, it made our meal so much better.” – Jessica, age 20.
Originally, when The Manor opened the kitchen would use chips, onion rings and food that were mass produced from an expensive vender. This is what many businesses do as it is an easier option. However, the owners asked their customers what they would like to see in the pub, as this is a new business there is always room for improvement. Locals mentioned that they wanted to see more locally sourced and home-made foods.
“When I first came to the Manor, the food was good but it was too much like other pubs. They started off by selling a home-made steak and ale pie which reminded me of my mums cooking at home; which I loved. I told them how they should do more home-made foods as it always tastes better.” – Peter, age 55.
The chefs at The Manor believe that changing to cooking locally sourced home-made food has really helped business and profit. They mention that they are getting a lot more orders than previous months, more compliments on the quality of the food and it also allows the chefs to show off their trade rather than just taking food from a freezer, putting it in a fryer and serving it up. “It has helped give our job more purpose. I can finally show what I am capable of when it comes to making food. I really enjoy getting the chance to prepare everything from scratch and trying new recipe ideas, experimenting with new flavours and products to make the food even better.” – Jason, The Manor House chef.
The landlord and landlady want to continue creating good quality food. They have recently designed a new spring/summer menu which will allow the chefs to continue experimenting with new recipes. They hope to continue attracting customers by offering them something that other pubs don’t; locally sourced, home-made, great quality food.
