People from all over have been taking photographs of their meal deals from different supermarkets and asking people to rate it out of ten. Theo Edwards, a regular meal deal eater, said “I started it on Friday, 9th July and it was really just a spontaneous moment. I was sat at home on Facebook after I just purchased my usual Boots Meal Deal.”
“This was the problem that occurred. I realised that I wanted to try new meals but was stuck for ideas and then the idea hit me. I wanted to create a group where members could post their own meals to influence others into trying something new. So that's what I did, and here we are!”
After reading this interview in the telegraph I thought I would give it a go myself. For the past two days I have gone to two different supermarkets in Headingley and bought a meal deal for my lunch.
On the first day I went to Sainsbury’s, I bought a red Leicester ploughman’s sandwich, a pack of chicken tikka masala crisps and a Ribena for the drink. The sandwich was full of flavour and it only cost me £3.00! On a whole I saved 70p I wouldn’t usually go for a fancy sandwich like that but in fact very tasty.
Then on my second day I went to the Co-operative for my meal deal. I must say I was overwhelmed with the amount of choice they had to choose from. For my sandwich I bought a tuna and sweetcorn, for my side I had the choice of desserts to crisps to even a pasty. After about five minutes of picking things up and putting back I settled for some chicken poppers and for my drink I chose an innocent smoothie. I wasn’t disappointed, it was delicious. At first, I was a bit unsure about what the chicken poppers would taste like, but they were full of flavour, once I had finished I was hoping for a few more they were that good. The meal deal cost £3.50 so it cost 50p more, but I saved £2.29 which is much better value for money than Sainsbury’s.
If you’re looking for a cheap and quick lunch, then I would recommend the Co-operative as there is much more choice and better value for your money.
