Student Life Hack = UBER Eats

Since moving to Leeds, having food at the click of a finger has never been so easy. UBER, one of the nation’s biggest transport businesses, has now extended its services into the food industry. Since August 2014, UBER Eats has become one of the most successful food delivery services, operating predominantly in city centres. It delivers food from over hundreds of restaurants and fast food chains with a variety of different cuisines.

It’s a student ideal- quick, easy and is delivered straight to your door. It even has its own app, which is extremely easy to use. Once the app is open, the main page allows you to scroll for 'inspiration' of what to pick. A few clicks later and it moves straight to your cart. Once in the cart, an estimated delivery is given and they try to ensure that it arrives ASAP.

The price is then shown, along with an added £2/£3 booking and delivery fee. Cards previously used are automatically saved to the account, providing a quicker checkout process. Satellite mapping enables you then to track where your order is and how long it will take for your order to arrive. The restaurant chosen will cook your food and the order will then be picked up by an UBER partner in a car, bike or scooter and delivered straight to your door.

With a mixture of both positive and negative reviews-excellent customer service, late arrivals, cold food, spilt products- I decided to put their services to the test. I was really craving chicken, so finally decided to look on the Nandos menu. I settled on chicken wings, chips and garlic bread. I placed the order at 9:59 am, sat back and waited.

The processing of the order took around 3 minutes and before I knew it, the order was on its way to me within 6 minutes. Usually, from restaurant to my door it takes around 7 minutes as that has been the average time taken when I have ordered food off of there previously. However, my UBER driver must have gotten lost as it took them over 14 minutes to arrive.

On receiving the bag, the food was all still in their boxes which I was happy about as previous experiences the food has come out of the packaging and the contents have gone everywhere, which made such a mess.

Due to the pristine condition of the cases, I was hopeful that everything would be okay but was disheartened to find both my chips and garlic bread had gone cold, I wasn’t very happy about this and only gave my driver a two-star rating due to this.

Usually, UBER Eats are always on top form with their orders and only on the rare occasion has something gone wrong. UBER Eats support team ensures they will always cater to the customer's services stating: “We’re here to help. Once you’ve placed an order, just contact our support team from within the app and we’ll promise to take care of your issue”. Hopefully, this was just a one-time thing and that it won’t happen again. I will still continue to use UBER Eats as its now the necessity I can’t live without.
